The present home of SPK Branch 20 Toronto, the Polish Combatants’ Hall at 206 Beverley Street, opened its doors on December 8th, 1973. The building was designed by renowned Polish architect Wiesław ‘Winslow’ Wodkiewicz, and is an architectural gem in the New Brutalism style. The three-storey, 1160-square-metre building includes an underground parking lot and two floors with offices, a club dining room, banquet hall, and a military museum.
The Polish Combatants’ Hall has a rich history and meaning for the Polish-Canadian community. In the 1970s, the building housed the Krakow pavilion, which was part of Toronto’s multicultural ‘Caravan’ festival. SPK Toronto members and their families, together with the scouts, worked together to make ‘Krakow’ one of the most successful pavilions. As well, the building has hosted countless veterans’ meetings, conferences, and cultural events over its five decades of serving our community.
